Sri Lankan team deploys biochar to remediate oil spill

After a shipwreck created a large oil spill off the Sri Lankan coast in 2021, researchers explored the remediation potential of biochar in site-based and laboratory experiments.

Results:

“Oil uptake was quick (≤30 min), all [biochars] were shown to be effective, and experimental results were well explained by pseudo-second-order kinetics.”
